Andy’s Story

Andy Gilbert – Senior Laboratory Technician

I undertook my undergraduate degree at the University of Nottingham in Biology where I achieved a First Class Degree and also developed a keen interest in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Biology. I continued my studies for a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Birmingham where I learnt and developed a wide range of different skills essential to the life sciences subjects.

I have been a Senior Laboratory Technician at the University of Lincoln for two years where I organise practical classes and demonstrate and teach a host of these acquired skills, such as microscopy and mycology, to our undergraduate and postgraduate students on a daily basis. The role as a technician exposes me to additional techniques allowing me to continue my own learning and professional development whilst passing on key skills onto our students.
